Counted as Postika does: one per Unicode character (emoji included). Some networks count links or emoji differently.

Step by step

  1. 1

Paste or type your text in the box above.

  2. 2

Read the count next to each network and spot the ones where the text is over the limit.

  3. 3

Trim the text for the networks that are over, or write a shorter version for them.

  4. 4

When it fits, copy it into your post or schedule it in Postika.

Why character limits matter

Every network rejects or cuts text that is too long, and each one has a different limit. A LinkedIn post of 1,200 characters is perfectly normal; on X it would need to be cut by more than three quarters. If you publish the same idea in several places, the shortest limit decides what you can write.

There is also the visible limit, which is shorter than the official one. Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook hide long text behind "more" after the first lines, so the opening sentence has to work on its own whatever the total length.

Networks do not all count the same way:

  • X counts every link as 23 characters regardless of its length, and counts emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as 2 each.
  • LinkedIn keeps line breaks, and each one counts as a character, so a post with lots of short lines uses up its 3,000 characters faster than it looks.
  • Threads counts emoji by their byte length, so they use more than one character.
  • YouTube measures its 5,000-character description limit in bytes, so accented letters and emoji use more than one unit.

A counter can only approximate those rules for every network at once. If your text is within a few characters of a limit, especially with emoji or links, leave some margin.

From counting to scheduling

In Postika you do not need to check limits by hand: the composer shows a preview per network and blocks a post that is too long before it can be scheduled. The full list of limits is on the social media limits page, and each network has its own guide, for example scheduling on X or scheduling on LinkedIn. If you write with an AI, connecting it to Postika means it gets each channel's character limit when it lists your channels; see the AI hub.
