Pinterest is a search engine, so plan like one

People use Pinterest to find ideas, often weeks before they act on them: recipes for next weekend, outfits for next season, decor for a move. Pins keep getting found long after they are published, which makes Pinterest the most "evergreen" of the networks Postika supports. Read more about evergreen content.

Two consequences for scheduling:

  • Publish ahead of the season. Christmas Pins in October, summer Pins in spring.
  • Spread Pins out. A few Pins a day over weeks is better than fifty in one afternoon. A content calendar makes that rhythm easy.

Writing Pins that get found

  • Describe what is in the image with the words people would type in Pinterest's search: "easy vegan lasagna for meal prep" rather than "Sunday vibes".
  • Use vertical images. Pinterest's recommended video ratios are vertical (9:16, 2:3, 1:2 and similar), and tall images take more space in the feed.
  • One clear idea per Pin. Text overlaid on the image helps people understand the Pin before they click.
  • Measure in your analytics. If your Pins lead to your site, tag the links with the UTM builder. Postika does not include Pinterest analytics; use Pinterest's own.

Pinterest's API allows longer descriptions (up to 800 characters) and multi-image Pins of 2 to 5 images. Postika currently applies stricter limits: 500 characters and one image, so a Pin that passes in Postika always fits Pinterest's rules. The limits reference shows both side by side.

Repurposing for Pinterest

Most brands already have Pinterest material: product photos, blog post images, Instagram graphics. Turning them into Pins is classic content repurposing. A good routine: every time you publish a blog post, create two or three Pins with different images and descriptions, and schedule them a week apart.

If the same visual goes to Instagram too, remember Instagram favors 4:5 while Pinterest likes taller images; exporting two crops is worth the extra minute.

Pin descriptions with your AI

Pinterest needs an image for every Pin, and images cannot be sent over MCP. So the AI's job is the text: search-friendly descriptions, spread over the calendar as drafts. You add the image to each draft in Postika.

Prompt: "Create ten Pinterest drafts for our new knitting patterns, one per day from Monday at 20:00. Each description under 450 characters, written with the words people search for."

Setup: Claude for Pinterest or ChatGPT for Pinterest.

Who schedules Pinterest with Postika

Pinterest is a strong channel for ecommerce brands, bloggers, recipe creators, interior designers and anyone whose product is visual. If that is you, the calendar view helps you keep a steady flow of Pins next to your Instagram and Facebook posts. Each brand gets its own project, and projects are unlimited on every plan.

Image specs for Pins

Pinterest's API accepts JPEG and PNG images for Pins, and the Help Center sets a 20 MB limit for image uploads. For video Pins, the Help Center lists MP4 or M4V files from 4 seconds to 5 minutes, with vertical ratios such as 9:16, 2:3 and 1:2 recommended.

A few production habits help:

  • Export tall. A 2:3 image (for example 1000 x 1500 pixels) is a safe default that looks good in the feed.
  • Keep text readable on a phone. Large type, high contrast, one short line.
  • Add your brand discreetly, such as a small logo in a corner, so a repinned image still points back to you.
  • Make several Pins per page. Two or three different images for the same blog post or product give Pinterest more chances to show it.

Frequently asked questions

Can you schedule Pins on Pinterest itself?

Yes, Pinterest lets you schedule Pins in its own app and website. Postika is useful when Pinterest is one of several networks you plan together.

How many images can a Pin have in Postika?

One image (or one video) per Pin. Pinterest's API allows multi-image Pins, but Postika does not support them yet.

How long can a Pin description be?

Postika allows 500 characters. Pinterest's API accepts up to 800, so anything you write in Postika fits.

How often should I pin?

Consistency matters more than volume. A few new Pins a day, or a few a week for small accounts, spread over time works better than large batches.
