Cross-posting
Cross-posting is publishing the same piece of content on several social networks, either unchanged or lightly adapted to each one.
When cross-posting works, and when it doesn't
Cross-posting saves time and keeps your message consistent. It works best between networks with similar formats and audiences: Instagram and Facebook, X and Threads, TikTok and Reels and Shorts.
It backfires when the post ignores the platform: a 2,000-character LinkedIn essay will not fit X's 280 characters, hashtags that help on Instagram look odd on LinkedIn, and a horizontal video wastes space on TikTok. Audiences also notice when every channel says exactly the same thing at the same minute.
The middle ground is adapt, don't copy: same idea and visuals, text rewritten for each network's length and tone.
Cross-posting in Postika
When a text fits every network you pick, select several channels in one post: Postika shows each network's preview and flags any limit that breaks (for example a caption too long for X, or a missing image for Instagram). When you want different text per network, create separate posts. An AI connected over MCP can do the rewriting for you, one version per network.
Check limits in the character counter, and read the full cross-posting guide. Related: content repurposing.
Frequently asked questions
Is cross-posting bad for reach?
Not by itself. What hurts is content that ignores the platform, such as wrong format or length. Adapted cross-posts usually perform fine.
Can I post to Instagram and Facebook at the same time?
Yes. In Postika select both channels in one post; it checks the rules of each network.
What is the difference between cross-posting and repurposing?
Cross-posting publishes the same content in several places. Repurposing turns one piece into a different format, like a blog post into a carousel.
Which networks are easiest to cross-post between?
Networks with similar formats: Instagram and Facebook for images, X and Threads for short text, and TikTok, Reels and Shorts for vertical video. Keep the shortest character limit in mind.
